Baguette Gazette: Things I'm loving + a theory on summer travel nostalgia
A binge-worthy show + my new favorite podcast inside 🗞️
Hi friends! Welcome to the latest “Baguette Gazette”. (If you’re new here, this is a monthly catchup where I share recommendations, personal updates, and what’s going on behind the recipes at TNB HQ.)
This mystery/drama [with a hint of comedy] was super addictive. A retired Florida mom (played by Annette Bening) goes missing, setting off a dumpster fire of interpersonal feuds wherein each of the remaining family members (including Alison Brie and Jake Lacey) appears to be a suspect. I stayed up way too late for several nights to find out whodunnit and did not see that ending coming.
Wiser Than Me is a relatively new podcast by Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Seinfeld, Veep). She interviews iconic older women about their lives, careers, and lessons they’ve learned. The few episodes I’ve heard so far have been funny, insightful, and poignant. 10/10 recommend. Check out the Ruth Reichl, Gloria Steinem, and Anne Lamott episodes.
Uniqlo’s linen blend dresses are the most comfortable summer uniform. (I adore their clothes in general, as mentioned in newsletters past.) I recently unpacked this pink one from last summer and have been living in it. It’s as comfy for running errands as it is for going out to dinner. (Similar here)
Hello, my friends, and happy June. Boy, do I love June. The deliciously breezy mornings, the extra-long days, the anticipatory prep for our annual Cape Cod camping trip. What a time to be alive!
This time last year I was on my honeymoon in Italy. I don’t know about you, but when I experience an amazing trip, I always have nostalgia for it the same time next year (and the years that follow). I have this theory about travel that the events have to get stored in your long-term memory in order for you to truly appreciate them. A year out, you forget all the unpleasant things (like when your flight got delayed, when a server was rude to you, or that dumb argument you got into with your partner) and only the good stuff gets solidified in the hard drive of your brain. Sound familiar?
I wrote about the trip last summer but some of the elements were reserved for paid subscribers. I’ve gone ahead and unlocked the full piece.
On to work. I often struggle with figuring out what recipes to publish in the summer. I think it’s because I assume you all are traveling and not cooking as much, so I end up posting less than usual. But not this year! I have a ton of new summery recipes coming down the pipeline and hope you’ll love as them much as I do.
In the meantime, in case you missed these, a look back at May…
