Baguette Gazette: Things I'm loving + February recap
My "Yellowjackets" obsession, a hype-worthy blush, a smart podcast + more 🗞️
Hi friends! Welcome to the latest “Baguette Gazette”. If you’re new here, this is a monthly catchup where I share recommendations, personal updates, and what’s going on behind the recipes at TNB HQ.
One of my favorite podcasters, Ella Mills [of Deliciously Ella], is back with a new show - this time partnered with nutritionist Rhiannon Lambert. Each week, they discuss and debunk current health headlines and wellness trends, and cut through the noise of all the conflicting information out there. Previous episodes have covered our current protein mania, whether you should really fear seed oils, blood glucose monitoring, and so much more. An upbeat listen I look forward to each week.
Let’s just say I’d rather not calculate the number of hours we spent on the couch last month with our eyes glued to the screen and our jaws on the floor, spellbound by “Yellowjackets.” This thriller follows a girls’ high school soccer team in two timelines - when their plane crashes en route to a nationals championship and they become stranded in the wilderness, and 25 years later, as they deal with their trauma as adults. It’s phenomenally acted (feat. Melanie Lynskey, Christina Ricci, and Juliette Lewis) but not for the faint of heart.
This social media-famous blush turned out to be totally worth the hype. The formula isn’t too pigmented, looks natural, and is very user-friendly. Ideal for those of us who enjoy wearing makeup but don’t necessarily want it to be visible.
Happy March, friends! Boy, does it feel good to write that. Spring officially kicks off in just a few short weeks, and I just can’t wait for more sunlight and to enjoy being outdoors again.
February was quite a productive month for me. I published a handful of new recipes I’m really excited about (recap links below), got to work on some fun freelance photography projects, and set the gears in motion to partner with a new advertising network. (FYI, selling ad space on thenewbaguette.com is how I’m able to make a living from my recipes while keeping them paywall-free. If you notice slightly different ads on the site over the next few months, please bear with us while we figure them out!)
I was also honored to be a guest on my dream podcast, Food Blogger Pro. This show (created by the team behind Pinch of Yum) has been one of the most influential resources for me and basically every other food blogger over the past ten-plus years, so it was quite a pinch-me moment to get to be on the other side. You can hear the full interview on Spotify and wherever you get podcasts!
Last but not least, another exciting thing this month was finally getting contact lenses. I had recently come to terms with the fact that my vision is not what it once was after an embarrassing encounter at the gym: I’d asked a fellow gym-goer if that was his phone left behind the leg-press machine, much to his confusion. Because there was no phone - I simply mistook a part of the machinery for an iPhone… Yikes.
My vision was one of those things that I just didn’t realize was a struggle until it got better. I feel like my world has literally and figuratively opened up!
See you Tuesday with a brand new recipe,
Alex
P.S. In case you missed any of February’s recipes…
